Josh Leonardis, PhD – Laboratory Director

Dr. Leonardis is the Director of the MMBL, assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health in the College of Applied Health Sciences, and assistant professor in the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. He earned a BS in exercise science from Salisbury University, an MS in exercise and sports science-biomechanics from East Carolina University, and a PhD in kinesiology-biomechanics from the University of Michigan. Before landing at Illinois, he completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in rehabilitation engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Shriners, Chicago. Outside of the MMBL, Josh loves to garden, bake and cook, hang out with his wife and their assortment of animals, do yard and house work, read, run, hike, and lift weights.


Whitney Wolff, PhD – Co-Investigator

Dr. Wolff is co-investigator in the MMBL and assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health in the College of Applied Health Sciences. Dr. Wolff’s aim is to develop evidence-based ergonomics workplace standards and recommendations for seated computer work for manual wheelchair and other assistive device users. Dr. Wolff earned a bachelors and masters in exercise science from Bowling Green State University and a PhD in kinesiology-biomechanics from the University of Michigan. Dr. Wolff is most likely hanging with her goats and cats, reading, hiking, or exercising when she is not in the MMBL
